Toronto Police uses hearse for distracted driving campaign

London Police

Toronto Police has launched a road safety campaign called ‘That Text or Call Could End It All’, incorporating the use of a hearse on the roads to drive home the message.

Running until Sunday, February 26, the one-week initiative will highlight all dangerous activities associated with drivers who talk, text, type, dial or email using hand-held communication and entertainment devices. As well as the hearse, the campaign will incorporate both stealth and fully marked police vehicles.

Police officers will be paying special attention to distracted drivers, involved in any activity that takes their focus away from the safe operation of their vehicle.

The use of hand-held communication and entertainment devices while driving is known to distract drivers from driving safely. Legislation is in place which has created specific offences for this driving behavior.
