eDriving launches new smartphone driver safety solution with in-app training for right-hand drive markets

Huddersfield, UK: 18 October, 2018eDriving, a global provider of driver risk management solutions, has launched its successful smartphone driver safety solution with in-app learning for markets with right-hand drive vehicles.

MentorSM by eDriving takes the company’s patented closed-loop approach to risk reduction and combines it with app-based microlearning and behavioural change techniques that have proven effective in areas like weight loss and fitness. Because Mentor automatically prescribes targeted training modules to drivers that are taken in-app it saves managers valuable time and reduces the burden of arranging training schedules to remedy drivers’ weaknesses.

“To reduce risk, managers first need to measure risk and Mentor helps them to do just that,” said Ed Dubens, CEO and Founder of eDriving. “Its powerful analytics engine evaluates drivers’ specific behaviours after every trip and over time and provides individual scores that enable managers to benchmark by team, organisation and industry. The in-app coaching modules are specifically designed to target individual driving behaviours and to fit into drivers’ busy schedules.”

Mentor uses sensors in the smartphone to collect performance data on risky behaviours such as speeding, cornering, harsh acceleration, harsh braking and phone use of any kind, including text messaging, calls and even picking up or touching the phone (to view a notification, for example). It automatically delivers engaging two- to five-minute interactive coaching modules to the driver’s in-app “playlist”, based on their on-road performance and identified strengths and weaknesses.

Tips, encouragement and reminders are sent to drivers in periodic intervals to keep them engaged in the process. Increasing the “gamification” aspect of the app, drivers can set up “Circles” of co-workers, family members or friends in which they can view each other’s scores and even “Poke” or “Clap” each other to tease or applaud their progress.

“Mentor is essentially a fitness programme to improve driving health,” said Dubens. “It’s highly relevant to drivers, it’s engaging and it utilises gamification features for a little friendly competition. This is a powerful combination that provides driver managers with total transparency and the knowledge that drivers are gradually improving their attitudes and behaviours on the roads. This type of lasting behavioural change is the only way organisations will sustain risk reduction over time.”

Managers have complete visibility of driver progress via a Manager Dashboard and regular email reports. To protect their privacy drivers can classify trips as “Business”, “Personal” or “Passenger”, with only “Business” trips reported to managers.

First launched in the US in 2017 for left-hand drive vehicles, Mentor’s right-hand drive version is now available for fleets of all sizes – as well as employee drivers’ family members – across markets with right-hand drive vehicles, including the UK and Europe, New Zealand and Australia.
