A quarter of Australians admit to using a phone while driving and one in ten have driven with their knees, according to a new national report.

The Safe Driving Report 2018, published by Finder, uncovers the risky behaviors that drivers admit to.

Key findings:

  • One in 20 drivers say they’ve had a microsleep behind the wheel
  • 38 percent say they’ve eaten take-away food while driving
  • 43 percent of “Baby Boomers” say they have never done anything dangerous while driving
  • “Generation X” is the most likely to smoke and drive (25 percent), compared to 20 percent of “Baby Boomers” and 13 percent of “Generation Y”
  • 15 percent of women admit to applying makeup behind the wheel
  • 25 percent of women admit to reaching into the back seat to deal with children, compared to just 12 percent of men
