India’s Supreme court has ordered all liquor shops to close down along state and national highways in an effort to cut drink driving collisions, reports the BBC.

The court told the government to cease issuing new licences and renewing existing licences after March 31, 2017.

All liquor advertisements must also be removed from highways and shops selling alcohol must be located at least 500 metres from highways.
