Road safety charity Brake has announced that its Fleet Safety Awards 2018 are open for entries in the UK and Australasia. Categories include company driver safety, fleet safety innovation, fleet safety product, safe vehicles, road risk manager of the year and outstanding commitment to road safety.

The UK awards also include the eDriving-sponsored Dr. Will Murray Award for Analysis and Action, in memory of eDriving’s late research director who passed away in 2016. An international occupational road safety expert, Will was motivated by a relentless passion for helping eDriving’s clients measure and maximize the impact of their road safety programs.

If you’re considering entering these – or other – fleet industry awards, but are wondering whether it’s worth it, here are five reasons why fleet awards can be beneficial to fleet managers and their organizations.

Recognition and endorsement of your safety efforts. Being nominated, shortlisted or named as the winner of an award demonstrates that your organization is committed to driver safety and can help to increase credibility with suppliers and customers.

If your organization wins, it will gain plenty of publicity. Even if you don’t scoop first prize, simply being shortlisted is likely to result in a listing on the organizer’s website, in press releases and news articles. Go all the way and there’ll be interview opportunities and the option of awards-branded marketing materials.

Awards ceremonies provide the ideal opportunity to network with like-minded organizations. You’ll also have the chance to make new contacts from within the fleet industry and meet leaders in driver safety.

Recognizing the commitment of employees is sure to boost employee morale and maintain motivation in your safety efforts. That in itself no doubt forms an integral part of your fleet safety program.

The application process is an opportunity to evaluate your safety program and identify areas for further improvement. Comparing results and achievements with similar organizations also helps you to share your own best practices and learn from the successes of peers.

“The Brake Fleet Safety Awards are a fantastic opportunity for companies to gain recognition for the hard work they do in keeping our roads safe,” says Ross Moorlock, Brake’s Business Development Director. “The awards are entered and attended by a wide range of organizations from across the industry, and our prestigious awards ceremony is a wonderful networking opportunity and celebration of best practice. I’d urge any organization successfully managing their occupational road risk to enter the 2018 awards; help us make the Fleet Safety Awards 2018 the biggest and best yet!”
