A New Zealand company has created an app that enables drivers to listen to their emails while driving.

Beweb developed the free Speaking Email app after director Mike Nelson became frustrated about being unable to safely read emails during his commute.

While he admits that drivers should not have any distractions he said banning cellphones completely whilst driving wasn’t working.

However, the national manager of road policing, Superintendent Steve Greally, said anything that distracted a person’s attention from driving was a safety risk. He said: “If someone is concentrating on an email, they are not likely to be giving their full attention to driving.”
