More than a third of New Zealand drivers feel unsafe on the road and don’t have confidence in the ability of other drivers, according to a survey by the AA Driving School.
In a seven-day period, 85% of drivers surveyed witnessed other road users exceeding the speed limit. Running a red light was witnessed by 63% of drivers, while 64% saw other drivers drifting out of a lane or parking inconsiderately.
“One of the main reasons for the lack of confidence in others’ abilities is people claiming to see plenty of motorists ignoring basic road rules and road courtesies,” said AA Driving School General Manager Roger Venn. “If that’s the case, there is a real need for better education and enforcement of some of these driving basics.”
