A bill banning the use of handheld electronic devices while driving has been introduced in Washington state Legislature.
Rep. Jessyn Farrell is sponsoring the Driving Under the Influence of Electronics Act in the House.
âIt makes no sense that texting while driving is against the law, but checking Facebook or another app isnât, even though those things are also dangerously distracting for drivers,â she said, in an article on the Washington House Democrats website. âWe see the tragic consequences of this on roads and highways in every corner of our state. Itâs time to update our law to make our roads safer.â
Sen. Ann Rivers is sponsoring the measure in the Senate.
Farrellâs measure is House Bill 1371. Riversâ bill is awaiting introduction in the Senate.
