{"id":10093,"date":"2020-10-01T22:39:29","date_gmt":"2020-10-01T22:39:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=10093"},"modified":"2020-10-01T22:39:29","modified_gmt":"2020-10-01T22:39:29","slug":"postponed-u-s-distracted-driving-awareness-month-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/postponed-u-s-distracted-driving-awareness-month-begins\/","title":{"rendered":"Postponed U.S. Distracted Driving Awareness Month begins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Safety Council (NSC) is marking the 10th anniversary of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsc.org\/road-safety\/get-involved\/distracted-driving-awareness-month\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Distracted Driving Awareness Month<\/a> this October with the publication of a new report.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsc.org\/road-safety\/safety-topics\/distracted-driving\/distraction-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u2018Understanding Driver Distraction\u2019<\/a>, recommends eliminating use of cell phones and interactive in-vehicle technology while driving, in order to help keep all drivers safe on the road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe research is clear \u2013 we can save lives and prevent injuries if we drive attentively and avoid distraction,\u201d said Lorraine M Martin, NSC President and CEO.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis October, I encourage all motorists to commit to driving attentively, particularly avoiding cell phone and in-vehicle technology that takes your hands, eyes or mind off the task of driving. Let\u2019s all work together to keep our roads safe and just drive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report urges drivers to program navigation devices and music before the drive begins and to avoid interacting with these or other apps until the car is safely parked.<\/p>\n<p>The report also calls for legislators to pass laws prohibiting all device use while driving.<\/p>\n<p>NSC\u2019s Distracted Driving Awareness Month is usually held in April but was moved to October because of Covid-19.
