{"id":10102,"date":"2020-10-02T16:50:44","date_gmt":"2020-10-02T16:50:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=10102"},"modified":"2020-10-02T16:50:44","modified_gmt":"2020-10-02T16:50:44","slug":"october-is-first-u-s-pedestrian-safety-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/october-is-first-u-s-pedestrian-safety-month\/","title":{"rendered":"October is first U.S. Pedestrian Safety Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Department of Transportation\u2019s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has designated October as the first-ever national Pedestrian Safety Month.<\/p>\n<p>The NHTSA is making pedestrian safety the focus of October as part of its continuing efforts to improve safety for vulnerable road users.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this designation of October as Pedestrian Safety Month, the Department is affirming its commitment to working closely with our state and local partners to make our roads safer for pedestrians,\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao.<\/p>\n<p>Each week during the month, NHTSA will highlight dangerous driving behaviors that put pedestrians at risk, as well as ways to improve pedestrian safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt some point in the day, we are all pedestrians \u2013 especially right now, when everyone wants to get outside for some fresh air,\u201d said NHTSA Deputy Administrator James Owens.\u00a0\u201cEveryone has a role to play in ensuring pedestrian safety. We must keep working to reduce pedestrian deaths from traffic crashes and this first-ever Pedestrian Safety Month will help save lives in communities across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NHTSA has developed resources to help states and local communities identify, address, and improve pedestrian safety.
