Motorists in Ireland are being urged to take extra care this month to avoid a repeat of February 2020 when 19 people lost their lives on the roads.<\/p>\n
Last February was the most treacherous month on Irish roads across the year. During the month, eight drivers, six pedestrians, four passengers and one motorcyclist tragically lost their lives.<\/p>\n
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) and An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1n is urging drivers to slow down and watch out for vulnerable road users so there is not the same \u201ccarnage\u201d witnessed 12 months ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cDespite February being the shortest month of the year, February 2020 was the most dangerous and tragic on our roads, with 19 people killed,\u201d said Sam Waide, RSA CEO.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat number is not just a statistic, it is nineteen families who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Whilst February this year may experience different traffic volumes compared to last year, that does not mean there is any less need to be mindful of the dangers whilst out driving, cycling or walking.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t want a repeat of the tragedy that we saw last year so, drivers slow down and watch out for vulnerable road users, and for pedestrians and cyclists, wear high visibility clothing, day or night.\u201d<\/p>\n
The RSA has launched a social media campaign aimed at creating awareness of the loss of life on Irish roads during February 2020 and encouraging road users to stay safe this month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
