{"id":10844,"date":"2021-08-31T17:51:51","date_gmt":"2021-08-31T17:51:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=10844"},"modified":"2021-08-31T17:51:51","modified_gmt":"2021-08-31T17:51:51","slug":"new-guidelines-for-road-safety-around-schools-in-ireland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/new-guidelines-for-road-safety-around-schools-in-ireland\/","title":{"rendered":"New guidelines for road safety around schools in Ireland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New guidelines for schools, aimed at helping them improve road safety, has been published by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsa.ie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Road Safety Authority<\/a> (RSA).<\/p>\n<p>The publication &#8211; which comes as pupils return to school for the start of the new academic year &#8211; provides information and tools to help schools develop and implement a road safety action plan to reduce the risk of incidents occurring during the commute to and from school.<\/p>\n<p>Together with An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na, the RSA is also appealing to parents, guardians and teachers to ensure road safety is on the back to school checklist. Drivers are being reminded they should expect to see a rise in the number of children using \u201cactive modes\u201d of transport such as cycling, walking or scooting to get to school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would encourage schools to read the new guidelines from the RSA and develop safety action plans to improve safety around their schools,\u201d said Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Hildegarde Naughton.<\/p>\n<p>The RSA\u2019s new <a href=\"https:\/\/rsa.ie\/Documents\/Road%20Safety\/Guidelines%20to%20improving%20road%20safety%20around%20your%20school\/Guideline%20for%20improving%20road%20safety%20around%20your%20school.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Guidelines for improving road safety around your school\u2019<\/a> were developed with input from the Department of Education and Skills, An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na, Green-Schools \/ An Taisce, the City and County Managers Association, Local Authority Road Safety Officers, Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the National Transport Authority, and are available to read <a href=\"https:\/\/rsa.ie\/Documents\/Road%20Safety\/Guidelines%20to%20improving%20road%20safety%20around%20your%20school\/Guideline%20for%20improving%20road%20safety%20around%20your%20school.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To date in 2021, a total of 95 people have died on Irish roads, three more than the same period in 2020.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New guidelines for schools, aimed at helping them improve road safety, has been published by the Road Safety Authority (RSA).
