Residents and workers in London are being urged to take advantage of free cycle services by the City\u00a0of London\u00a0Corporation\u2019s Planning and Transportation Committee.<\/p>\n
Throughout the pandemic, many people across England took up cycling as the benefits of fresh air and sustainable travel became even more evident during the months of lockdown.<\/p>\n
TfL recently revealed<\/a>\u00a0that cycling levels during the coronavirus pandemic were boosted from 21 percent of Londoners in 2019\/20 to 27 percent in 2020\/21.<\/p>\n Reacting to the modal shift, the City Corporation rolled out a transport recovery initiative in May last year. Later phases to the scheme included further measures to encourage walking and cycling in the City including providing additional cycle parking for personal and dockless bikes.<\/p>\n Those who live, work or study in the City of London are eligible to receive free cycle training from expert instructors who tailor the session to the rider\u2019s ability \u2013 from first-time riders to regular cyclists looking to improve confidence.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is encouraging to see\u00a0the\u00a0numbers of cyclists on City streets\u00a0rising, particularly since the recent rebound of workers returning to the office,\u201d said Chair of the City of London Corporation\u2019s Planning and Transportation Committee, Alastair Moss. \u201cSafety on City streets remains our top priority and so we are reminding City residents, workers and businesses of the free cycle services available to them – including tailored cycle skills training courses for individuals and families who live or work in the Square Mile.\u201d<\/p>\n The City Corporation\u2019s\u00a0Transport Strategy<\/a>\u00a0and draft\u00a0City Plan 2036<\/a>\u00a0aim to prioritise pedestrians and cyclists by enabling cleaner and healthier ways to travel and increasing the amount of high-quality public space in the City.<\/p>\n
