In fact, according to one study, children are more likely to be fatally struck by a vehicle on Halloween than on any other night of the year.<a href=\"#_ftn1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>eDriving\u2019s Halloween safety tips: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Drivers: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assume all residential areas will have children on the streets<\/li>\n<li>Use headlights, even at dusk<\/li>\n<li>Drive well under the posted speed limit, particularly on curves<\/li>\n<li>Look out for children entering the road from stopped vehicles<\/li>\n<li>Take extra care when entering\/exiting driveways and turning into roads<\/li>\n<li>Use turn signals to indicate your intentions<\/li>\n<li>Yield to children<\/li>\n<li>Expect children to cross the road where they shouldn\u2019t \u2013 and without checking that it\u2019s safe<\/li>\n<li>Stay focused. Avoid distractions such as phones, interacting with GPS, eating and drinking<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t consume any alcohol if you\u2019re driving; impairment begins below the legal drink-driving limit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Parents\/ guardians of trick-or treaters:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adhere to COVID-19 restrictions and safety guidance in your area \u2013 this may include avoiding visiting other people\u2019s houses. Also be mindful that some people will not want unknown visitors at their homes<\/li>\n<li>Accompany children under 12<\/li>\n<li>Use blinkers\/hazard lights when dropping off or picking up children in your car<\/li>\n<li>Encourage children to wear costumes that are bright and reflective. Add strips of reflective\/glow-in-the-dark tape to dark costumes and\/or Halloween treat\/loot buckets or bags<\/li>\n<li>Ensure costumes are not a trip hazard, particularly capes and cloaks<\/li>\n<li>Set a good example while accompanying children: walk-don\u2019t run, cross the road at designated places, stay on the sidewalk and use well-lit streets<\/li>\n<li>Equip children with a flashlight with fresh batteries and\/or glowsticks<\/li>\n<li>If you\u2019re allowing older children to go out alone, agree a safe route beforehand and talk about the rules they must follow, including crossing at safe places, looking both ways and listening for traffic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" name=\"_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> https:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2018\/10\/181030110635.htm<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Halloween is a fun time for families, but it can be a dangerous time on the roads.
