{"id":11012,"date":"2021-11-11T17:59:41","date_gmt":"2021-11-11T17:59:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=11012"},"modified":"2021-11-11T17:59:41","modified_gmt":"2021-11-11T17:59:41","slug":"london-drivers-urged-to-switch-off-engines-to-improve-air-quality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/london-drivers-urged-to-switch-off-engines-to-improve-air-quality\/","title":{"rendered":"London drivers urged to switch off engines to improve air quality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Drivers in London are being encouraged to switch off their engines while stationary as part of a new campaign launched in a bid to cut air pollution and carbon emissions.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-sCXaziyWnw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cEngine Off, Every Stop\u201d<\/a> campaign features posters, bus rears, and billboards on roadside sites and petrol stations across the capital and is led by the City of London Corporation and Camden Council, and funded by the Mayor of London.<\/p>\n<p>The four-week project, running throughout November, highlights air pollution as an \u201cinvisible killer\u201d and a serious danger for many Londoners.<\/p>\n<p>Idling vehicles emit pollutants including nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter which are linked to asthma, heart disease, chronic bronchitis and cancer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis campaign gives London\u2019s drivers a clear call to action to safeguard personal and public health,\u201d said Chairman of the City of London Corporation\u2019s Environment Committee, Keith Bottomley. \u201cSwitching off is the easiest way to minimise air pollution and cut carbon emissions.
