{"id":11028,"date":"2021-11-24T17:23:51","date_gmt":"2021-11-24T17:23:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=11028"},"modified":"2021-11-24T17:23:51","modified_gmt":"2021-11-24T17:23:51","slug":"new-study-looks-at-impact-of-verdicts-and-settlements-on-trucking-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/new-study-looks-at-impact-of-verdicts-and-settlements-on-trucking-industry\/","title":{"rendered":"New study looks at impact of verdicts and settlements on trucking industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) has released a <a href=\"https:\/\/truckingresearch.org\/2021\/11\/17\/the-impact-of-small-verdicts-and-settlements-on-the-trucking-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new report<\/a> investigating the impact of verdicts and settlements under $1 million on the trucking industry.<\/p>\n<p>The research used a new ATRI dataset of more than 600 cases resulting in either a settlement or verdict award of less than $1 million and provides insight into key crash characteristics and litigation factors that contribute to substantial payments to plaintiffs.<\/p>\n<p>The study, a follow-up to ATRI\u2019s 2020 hallmark report on <em>The Impact of Nuclear Verdicts on the Trucking Industry<\/em>, showed that settlement payments are approximately 37.7 percent larger than verdict awards, and 393 percent more likely to occur in incidents involving a fatality.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, incidents involving a severe injury were 217 percent more likely to settle and 199 percent more likely to result in payments to plaintiffs over $600,000.<\/p>\n<p>The report provides an overview of the small litigation landscape in the trucking industry as well as strategies to assist carriers and attorneys in preventing more costly litigation outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>The full report can be read on <a href=\"https:\/\/truckingresearch.org\/2021\/11\/17\/the-impact-of-small-verdicts-and-settlements-on-the-trucking-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATRI\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) has released a new report investigating the impact of verdicts and settlements under $1 million on the trucking industry.
