{"id":11044,"date":"2021-12-03T08:00:26","date_gmt":"2021-12-03T08:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=11044"},"modified":"2021-12-07T10:34:49","modified_gmt":"2021-12-07T10:34:49","slug":"victorians-urged-to-extra-vigilant-as-covid-restrictions-ease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/victorians-urged-to-extra-vigilant-as-covid-restrictions-ease\/","title":{"rendered":"Victorians urged to be \u201cextra vigilant\u201d as COVID restrictions ease"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new campaign is reminding drivers in Victoria of the increased risks they will face as more people get on the road with COVID restrictions easing.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tac.vic.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Transport Accident Commission (TAC)<\/a> initiative, \u201cBe the reason they get home safe\u201d launched to coincide with Victorians being able to travel anywhere in the state for the first time in a long time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are urging everyone to be extra vigilant when they hit the road as restrictions continue to ease across the state,\u201d said Minister for Roads Ben Carroll.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe message couldn\u2019t be clearer \u2013 plan ahead, slow down, don\u2019t drink or drug drive, put your phone away &amp; make safe choices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Already 207 people have died on Victoria roads this year &#8211; nine percent higher than the same time last year, and police have reported an increase in speeding offences and collisions involving drink driving.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign will run in the lead-up to Christmas and over summer as more people take road trips, visit family and friends and head to events.<\/p>\n<p>This campaign is part of the Government\u2019s Victorian Road Safety Strategy 2021-2030, which aims to halve road deaths by 2030 and put the country on a strong path to eliminate all road deaths by 2050.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new campaign is reminding drivers in Victoria of the increased risks they will face as more people get on the road with COVID restrictions easing.
