{"id":11059,"date":"2021-12-02T19:11:38","date_gmt":"2021-12-02T19:11:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=11059"},"modified":"2021-12-02T19:11:38","modified_gmt":"2021-12-02T19:11:38","slug":"new-research-shows-scale-of-covid-19-on-trucking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/new-research-shows-scale-of-covid-19-on-trucking\/","title":{"rendered":"New research shows scale of COVID-19 on trucking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The American Transportation Research Institute\u2019s latest trucking data has shown the effect of COVID-19 on the industry.<\/p>\n<p>The organization\u2019s report \u201cAn Analysis of the Operational Costs of Trucking\u201d reveals dead-head miles increased to 20.6 percent in 2020, annual operating miles decreased to 89,358 miles per truck, and fuel costs declined by nearly 20 percent to 30.8 cents per mile.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the average marginal cost per mile incurred by motor carriers in 2020 decreased 5 cents per mile to $1.64. When the per-mile costs are converted to hourly costs, the report found that total hourly costs dropped slightly to $66.87.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the face of a COVID-19 economy, our industry tightly managed costs and operations, while delivering essential goods to market. We also led the way out of the COVID-19 recession in the latter half of the year.
