{"id":13634,"date":"2022-02-11T15:13:18","date_gmt":"2022-02-11T15:13:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=13634"},"modified":"2022-02-11T15:13:18","modified_gmt":"2022-02-11T15:13:18","slug":"new-data-reveals-worrying-trend-in-hit-and-run-crashes-in-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/new-data-reveals-worrying-trend-in-hit-and-run-crashes-in-florida\/","title":{"rendered":"New data reveals worrying trend in hit-and-run crashes in Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The total number of hit-and-run crashes across Florida increased by more than 17 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/public.tableau.com\/app\/profile\/flhsmv\/viz\/HitandRunCrashFatalities\/HRDashboard2_0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new data<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The report by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) also found fatalities from hit-and-runs were also up by more than 18 percent last year, and serious bodily injuries from hit-and-runs were up 20 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Now, as February marks hit-and-run awareness month in the state, the FLHSMV and its division of the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), are leading a \u201cStay at the Scene\u201d campaign to prevent crashes and reduce fatalities and injuries, and bring justice to families impacted by these crimes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHit-and-run crashes and fatalities are tragically on the rise in our state \u2013 causing devastation to Florida\u2019s families and communities,\u201d said FLHSMV Executive Director, Terry L Rhodes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDrivers who choose to flee after being involved in a crash that results in property damage, injury, or death are not just breaking the law \u2013 they are displaying a blatant disregard for the life and property of others.
