{"id":13741,"date":"2022-04-08T15:30:02","date_gmt":"2022-04-08T15:30:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=13741"},"modified":"2022-04-08T15:30:02","modified_gmt":"2022-04-08T15:30:02","slug":"100-german-cities-want-the-right-to-set-30-km-h-limits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/100-german-cities-want-the-right-to-set-30-km-h-limits\/","title":{"rendered":"100 German cities want the right to set 30 km\/h limits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An initiative in Germany to push for local government powers to set 30 km\/h limits has signed-up its 100th city.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cLebenswerte St\u00e4dte durch angemessene Geschwindigkeiten\u201d campaign, which can be roughly translated as \u201cLiveable cities need reasonable speeds\u201d, is calling on the federal government to change the law in order to let local authorities introduce 30 km\/h speed limits more easily.<\/p>\n<p>The current road traffic law sets narrow limits for the local authorities and only allows speed limits to be changed when specific hazards are shown, such as a school crossing, and only for certain road sections, not whole zones.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative was launched in July 2021 by the cities of Aachen, Augsburg, Freiburg, Hanover, Leipzig, M\u00fcnster and Ulm.\u00a0 Berlin, the German capital, is one of the latest to sign-up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLower speeds\u2026can make a significant contribution to achieving urban planning, traffic and environmental goals\u2026and a city worth living in,\u201d said Frauke Burgdorff, city planning officer of the city of Aachen and also spokesperson for the city initiative.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An initiative in Germany to push for local government powers to set 30 km\/h limits has signed-up its 100th city.
