{"id":13798,"date":"2022-05-12T09:00:20","date_gmt":"2022-05-12T09:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=13798"},"modified":"2022-05-10T16:25:10","modified_gmt":"2022-05-10T16:25:10","slug":"new-report-highlights-marginal-environmental-benefits-of-zero-emission-trucks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/new-report-highlights-marginal-environmental-benefits-of-zero-emission-trucks\/","title":{"rendered":"New report highlights \u2018marginal environmental benefits\u2019 of zero-emission trucks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Zero-emission trucks only have a 30 percent decrease in CO2 emissions when compared to a standard diesel truck, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/truckingresearch.org\/2022\/05\/03\/understanding-the-co2-impacts-of-zero-emission-trucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new study<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) has released a new report that analyzes the environmental impacts of zero-emission trucks (ZET).<\/p>\n<p>The study found that while electric trucks have no direct tailpipe emissions, there would still be CO2 production associated with vehicle, battery and electricity production.<\/p>\n<p>The report said the marginal environmental benefits of electric trucks are due, in large part, to lithium-ion battery production \u2013 which generates more than six times the carbon of diesel truck production.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe U.S. trucking industry is strongly committed to carbon-reduction efforts, and electric motors and drive trains offer many additional performance and maintenance benefits,\u201d said Hugh Ekberg, President and CEO of CRST.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut ATRI\u2019s research highlights that several of the leading zero-emission approaches being advocated today still need additional research to fully understand how the different technologies can be best developed and utilized to maximize carbon reduction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A copy of the full report is available through <a href=\"https:\/\/truckingresearch.org\/2022\/05\/03\/understanding-the-co2-impacts-of-zero-emission-trucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATRI\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Zero-emission trucks only have a 30 percent decrease in CO2 emissions when compared to a standard diesel truck, according to a new study.
