{"id":13802,"date":"2022-05-16T09:00:13","date_gmt":"2022-05-16T09:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=13802"},"modified":"2022-05-10T17:04:46","modified_gmt":"2022-05-10T17:04:46","slug":"campaign-launches-in-british-columbia-to-slow-down-speeding-summer-drivers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/campaign-launches-in-british-columbia-to-slow-down-speeding-summer-drivers\/","title":{"rendered":"Campaign launches in British Columbia to slow down speeding summer drivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A month-long campaign has launched in British Columbia to tackle speed-related crashes.<\/p>\n<p>According to police data as the weather warms up an average of 141 speed-related crashes, causing injury or death, occur every month now through summer.<\/p>\n<p>Along with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icbc.com\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Insurance Corporation of British Columbia<\/a> (ICBC), police are warning drivers that driving too fast \u2013 even in ideal road conditions \u2013 can have tragic consequences.<\/p>\n<p>Police will be targeting speeding drivers during May. Speed Watch volunteers will also be set up in communities across B.C. to remind drivers of the speed they&#8217;re travelling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRoad safety is a responsibility that we all share,\u201d said Chief Superintendent Holly Turton, Vice-Chair of the B.C. Association of Chiefs of Police Traffic Safety Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen drivers make good choices to not engage in high risk driving behaviours such as speeding, they are doing their part to make our roads safer together.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Speeding remains the leading cause of car crash fatalities in B.C. with eight people, on average, killed in crashes involving speed every month from May through September.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A month-long campaign has launched in British Columbia to tackle speed-related crashes.
