{"id":13856,"date":"2022-06-30T09:00:45","date_gmt":"2022-06-30T09:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=13856"},"modified":"2022-06-27T14:03:56","modified_gmt":"2022-06-27T14:03:56","slug":"support-for-young-people-in-regional-western-australia-to-gain-their-drivers-licence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/support-for-young-people-in-regional-western-australia-to-gain-their-drivers-licence\/","title":{"rendered":"Support for young people in regional Western Australia to gain their driver\u2019s licence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Learner drivers in Mid-West, Gascoyne and Goldfields-Esperance regions of Western Australia could benefit from targeted local support to help them obtain their licence.<\/p>\n<p>A total of $2.4 million in grants is being made available to eligible community-based organisations to support initiatives that improve access to driving services, instructors and suitable vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme is an extension of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transport.wa.gov.au\/projects\/driving-access-and-equity.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Driving Access and Equity Program<\/a>, aimed at helping disadvantaged learner drivers, particularly those in regional Western Australia, get their driver\u2019s licence.<\/p>\n<p>Stakeholder engagement sessions will be held in the Mid-West and Gascoyne over June and July, and in the Goldfields-Esperance during August, to identify and understand local barriers preventing people obtaining their driver&#8217;s licence.<\/p>\n<p>A pilot of the program in the Kimberley and Pilbara has already provided $3.5 million in grants and seen additional remote services officers, driver instructor training and the development of culturally appropriate publications.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know that having a driver&#8217;s licence opens up so many more opportunities, including increasing their employability and confidence,\u201d said Transport Minister Rita Saffioti.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have already seen many tangible outcomes from our Pilbara and Kimberley funding &#8211; I look forward to seeing the results of the program as it rolls out across another three regions in WA.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Learner drivers in Mid-West, Gascoyne and Goldfields-Esperance regions of Western Australia could benefit from targeted local support to help them obtain their licence.
