{"id":13873,"date":"2022-07-07T09:00:06","date_gmt":"2022-07-07T09:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=13873"},"modified":"2022-07-05T17:38:14","modified_gmt":"2022-07-05T17:38:14","slug":"new-study-focuses-on-tackling-distracted-driving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/new-study-focuses-on-tackling-distracted-driving\/","title":{"rendered":"New study focuses on tackling distracted driving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An estimated 3,142 people died in distraction-related crashes in the US in 2020 and a further 424,000 people were injured, according to latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).<\/p>\n<p>Now the Governors Highway Safety Authority (GHSA) has issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ghsa.org\/resources\/GHSA\/GM\/Distracted-Driving22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new report<\/a> with the aim of changing the social norm around distracted driving to make it completely unacceptable.<\/p>\n<p>Distracted driving can be anything from using electronic devices behind the wheel to eating and even daydreaming.<\/p>\n<p>The study examines the extent of the problem and provides more than two dozen recommendations to help State Highway Safety Offices (SHSO) and their partners combat distracted driving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDistraction is rampant on our roads,\u201d said GHSA Executive Director, Jonathan Adkins.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWatch the passing cars the next time you\u2019re waiting at a crosswalk or riding in a vehicle \u2013 odds are you\u2019ll see someone not paying full attention to the road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToo many drivers are quick to point the finger at others driving distracted but refuse to look in the mirror and improve their own behavior behind the wheel.
