Drivers in Ireland are being urged to be aware of motorcyclists following a rise in deaths.<\/p>\n
This year 18 motorcyclists have already died on Ireland\u2019s roads, an increase of five compared to 2021.<\/p>\n
Now the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and the Irish Motorcycle Association are appealing to motorists to look out for riders.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs someone who tests motorcyclists and is a keen motorcyclist, I have first-hand experience of the challenges that motorcyclists face daily on the road,\u201d said Stefan Auler, Regional Manager, Driver Testing, RSA.<\/p>\n
\u201cVisibility is often a factor in motorcycle crashes involving other vehicles. Because of its narrow profile, a motorcycle can be easily hidden in a car\u2019s blind spots such as the door and roof pillars or masked by objects or backgrounds outside a car like bushes, fences, and bridges.<\/p>\n
\u201cDrivers should always assume motorcyclists are closer than they appear. Their speed and distance are difficult to judge, especially at intersections. Look twice before turning right or left, crossing junctions and when changing lanes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Auler also appealed for motorcyclists to wear the correct PPE and ride with dipped headlights on, to increase visibility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
