{"id":13929,"date":"2022-08-11T09:00:23","date_gmt":"2022-08-11T09:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=13929"},"modified":"2022-08-10T14:54:59","modified_gmt":"2022-08-10T14:54:59","slug":"universal-terms-for-advanced-driver-assistance-technology-unveiled-to-clear-up-confusion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/universal-terms-for-advanced-driver-assistance-technology-unveiled-to-clear-up-confusion\/","title":{"rendered":"Universal terms for advanced driver assistance technology unveiled to clear up confusion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To clear up confusion over terminology used for advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features, a coalition of the U.S.\u2019 leading experts in automobiles and auto safety has released a set of expanded and updated recommendations for <a href=\"https:\/\/article.images.consumerreports.org\/image\/upload\/v1658777041\/prod\/content\/dam\/CRO-Images-2022\/Cars\/07July\/Clearing-the-Confusion-7-26-22.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">universal terms<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>ADAS features have become increasingly prevalent in new vehicles, and have the potential to reduce traffic crashes and save thousands of lives each year. However, the terminology used by automakers to describe ADAS features varies widely, which can confuse consumers and make it difficult to understand the vehicle\u2019s functions, says the AAA.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation said when the capabilities of vehicle safety features are overstated or misrepresented with marketing language designed to reel in buyers, consumers may over-rely on these systems.<\/p>\n<p>It is hoped by establishing common language for ADAS drivers understand that these systems assist, rather than replace, an engaged driver.<\/p>\n<p>The six overarching categories on the list are collision warning, collision intervention, driving control assistance, parking assistance, driver monitoring, and other driver assistance systems.<\/p>\n<p>The organisations which have contributed to the \u2018universal terms\u2019 are AAA, Consumer Reports, J.D. Power, National Safety Council, PAVE, and SAE International.<\/p>\n<p>The coalition is calling on automakers, regulators, safety organizations, journalists, and other stakeholders to adopt the recommended standard language and help reduce driver confusion.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cClearing the Confusion\u201d effort started in 2019 with an initial list of standardized names and was endorsed by the U.S. Department of Transportation in 2020.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To clear up confusion over terminology used for advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features, a coalition of the U.S.\u2019 leading experts in automobiles and auto safety has released a set of expanded and updated recommendations for universal terms.
