{"id":14482,"date":"2023-10-30T16:07:47","date_gmt":"2023-10-30T16:07:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=14482"},"modified":"2023-10-30T16:07:47","modified_gmt":"2023-10-30T16:07:47","slug":"pedestrian-safety-campaign-launched-in-british-columbia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/pedestrian-safety-campaign-launched-in-british-columbia\/","title":{"rendered":"Pedestrian safety campaign launched in British Columbia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icbc.com\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Insurance Corporation of British Columbia<\/a> (ICBC) and police have launched a pedestrian safety campaign in response to a rise in pedestrian injuries and fatalities on the road at this time of year.<\/p>\n<p>According to the ICBC, nearly half \u2013 43 percent &#8211; of crashes involving pedestrians happen between October and January as visibility and weather worsen in B.C. with distracted driving and failing to yield the right-of-way being the top contributing factors for drivers in pedestrian related crashes.<\/p>\n<p>Now ICBC and police are asking drivers to reduce their speed when pedestrians are present, be ready to stop for pedestrians, and focus on the road.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the campaign ICBC and volunteers will be handing out safety reflectors throughout B.C. to help increase visibility of pedestrians for drivers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We all need to do our part to improve pedestrian safety on our roads this fall,\u201d said To\u200bdd Preston, President of the BC Association of Chiefs of Police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe days are getting shorter which means pedestrians will be navigating roads in the dark. When driving, please take extra time to look for pedestrians, especially at intersections.
