{"id":14520,"date":"2023-12-11T15:46:54","date_gmt":"2023-12-11T15:46:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=14520"},"modified":"2023-12-11T15:46:54","modified_gmt":"2023-12-11T15:46:54","slug":"study-finds-more-than-half-of-all-drivers-engage-in-dangerous-behavior","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/study-finds-more-than-half-of-all-drivers-engage-in-dangerous-behavior\/","title":{"rendered":"Study finds more than half of all drivers engage in dangerous behavior"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Six different types of drivers have been identified by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aaa.com\/International\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety<\/a> in a new report which analyzes risky driving behaviors.<\/p>\n<p>The most common dangerous behaviors were speeding, distracted driving, and aggressive driving.<\/p>\n<p>The annual Traffic Safety Culture Index survey developed the six driver profiles by examining patterns of self-reported risky driving behaviors among a large group of drivers.<\/p>\n<p>The six driver profiles identified by the latest Traffic Safety Culture Index are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Safe Drivers (41.2%) \u2013 Few in this group reported engaging in any risky driving-related behaviors, and more women (57%) composed the Safe Drivers group.<\/li>\n<li>Speeding Drivers (22.7%) \u2013 These drivers reported driving 15mph over the speed limit on freeways and\/or 10mph over on residential streets but did not engage in most other dangerous behaviors.<\/li>\n<li>Distracted and Aggressive Drivers (17.3%) \u2013 Reported distracted driving behaviors (texting while driving), speeding, and aggressive behaviors, such as red-light running and switching lanes quickly.<\/li>\n<li>Distracted Drivers (15.0%) \u2013 These drivers reported distracted driving behaviors such as reading text messages and texting while driving.<\/li>\n<li>Most Dangerous Drivers (2.4%) \u2013 While these drivers consisted of only a small percentage of the drivers, they pose a serious risk to themselves and other road users as they reported engaging in all risky driving-related behaviors.<\/li>\n<li>Impaired Drivers (1.3%) \u2013 Most live in non-metropolitan areas. Interestingly, drivers with a 4-year college degree were far less likely to report driving while impaired. At the same time, the most \u201cover-represented\u201d group consisted of those with some college or an associate degree.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cDespite acknowledging the dangers, some drivers continue to engage in potentially deadly behaviors, particularly speeding,\u201d said Dr David Yang, AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety President and Executive Director.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnderstanding the different types of risky driving behaviors and the characteristics of drivers who engage in them is crucial for developing targeted interventions to achieve safe mobility.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Six different types of drivers have been identified by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety in a new report which analyzes risky driving behaviors.
