Road safety speakers from the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) are talking to teens to help prevent crashes this graduation season.<\/p>\n
New drivers are eight times more likely to be involved in fatal crashes than experienced drivers, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.<\/p>\n
In a bid to help students realize the life-changing consequences of taking risks while driving, road safety speakers will be visiting BC high schools this graduation season to connect with teens through their personal stories.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur speakers\u2019 presentations open up conversations with teens about situations they may face and support them in making safe choices for their future,\u201d said Shabnem Afzal, ICBC\u2019s director of road safety.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur road safety speaker program is one way we\u2019re working to protect young drivers and help them understand the life-changing consequences that can result from a crash.\u201d<\/p>\n
Car crashes are the leading cause of death for Canadian youth.<\/p>\n
According to police data distracted driving is the top factor (30 percent) in casualty crashes involving young drivers followed by speed (16 percent) and impaired driving (seven percent).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
