{"id":14752,"date":"2024-08-22T15:00:08","date_gmt":"2024-08-22T15:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=14752"},"modified":"2024-08-09T18:20:28","modified_gmt":"2024-08-09T18:20:28","slug":"madd-marks-americas-21-drinking-age-law-turning-40","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/madd-marks-americas-21-drinking-age-law-turning-40\/","title":{"rendered":"MADD marks America\u2019s 21 drinking age law turning 40"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/madd.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mothers Against Drunk Driving<\/a> (MADD) has marked the 40 year anniversary since \u201clifesaving law\u201d was introduced in the US making 21 the minimum age to drink.<\/p>\n<p>In July 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed the Minimum Legal Drinking Age-21 Law, alongside drunk driving victims and survivors from MADD, then-U.S. Transportation Secretary Elizabeth Dole, and Congressional sponsors.<\/p>\n<p>MADD said over the last four decades, the federal law had saved more than 30,000 lives and served as a blueprint for MADD\u2019s efforts to end impaired driving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 21 legal drinking age is one of the most researched public health laws of our time, and its impact on reducing drunk driving deaths among young people is unparalleled,\u201d said MADD CEO Stacey D.
