{"id":15062,"date":"2025-04-23T15:00:10","date_gmt":"2025-04-23T15:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=15062"},"modified":"2025-04-14T21:09:34","modified_gmt":"2025-04-14T21:09:34","slug":"new-campaign-warns-drivers-multitasking-behind-the-wheel-is-a-deadly-risk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/new-campaign-warns-drivers-multitasking-behind-the-wheel-is-a-deadly-risk\/","title":{"rendered":"New campaign warns drivers \u2018multitasking behind the wheel is a deadly risk\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new distracted driving campaign is urging motorists in Minnesota to stay off their phones when they\u2019re behind the wheel.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement and traffic safety partners are teaming up with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety\u2019s Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) in April for extra enforcement and awareness.<\/p>\n<p>The hands-free cell phone use law means drivers can\u2019t hold their phone in their hand period. Accessing or posting on social media, streaming videos, checking that box score or searching online for information on a device while driving is against the law in Minnesota, even in hands-free mode.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMultitasking behind the wheel is a deadly risk, said OTS Director Mike Hanson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrust me, if you&#8217;re involved in a fatal crash, you won\u2019t be thinking about that text you almost missed,\u201d said Hanson. \u201cDrivers, put the phones down while you\u2019re on the road \u2014your focus will save lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, distracted driving was a factor in at least 29 fatal crashes in Minnesota and an estimated 137 serious injuries. To help keep people safe, officers, deputies and troopers will be participating in the enforcement and awareness campaign.<\/p>\n<p>OTS is coordinating the campaign with funding provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new distracted driving campaign is urging motorists in Minnesota to stay off their phones when they\u2019re behind the wheel.
