{"id":15168,"date":"2025-07-03T15:00:28","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T15:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=15168"},"modified":"2025-06-25T21:15:20","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T21:15:20","slug":"road-safety-experts-call-for-levelling-up-of-vehicle-standards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/road-safety-experts-call-for-levelling-up-of-vehicle-standards\/","title":{"rendered":"Road safety experts call for \u2018levelling up\u2019 of vehicle standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cRoad safety should not be compromised as a result of automotive trade negotiations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That was the message from a number of road safety organizations who wrote to Dr Juan Carlos Mu\u00f1oz, president of the International Transport Forum (ITF) before ITF\u2019s annual summit held in Germany last month.<\/p>\n<p>The organizations raised concerned that current disputes over tariffs and trade in automobiles could have an adverse impact on well-established global vehicle safety standards.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalncap.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global NCAP<\/a>, one of the organizations to sign the letter said in a statement: \u201cWe strongly believe that it is better to level up than to level down vehicle standards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis would both improve road safety and international trade in automobiles. We respectfully ask ITF Transport Ministers to support the following actions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Encourage their colleague Trade Ministers to refrain from including vehicle safety standards in negotiations over tariffs and trade.<\/li>\n<li>Engage with the UN World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations to support multilateral cooperation on improved vehicle safety; and<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that recent progress in global automotive standards is reinforced rather than undermined.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cRoad safety should not be compromised as a result of automotive trade negotiations.\u201d That was the message from a number of road safety organizations who wrote to Dr Juan Carlos Mu\u00f1oz, president of the International Transport Forum (ITF) before ITF\u2019s annual summit held in Germany last month.
