{"id":15257,"date":"2025-09-16T15:00:24","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T15:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=15257"},"modified":"2025-09-15T20:08:12","modified_gmt":"2025-09-15T20:08:12","slug":"new-survey-reveals-drivers-flunk-on-speeding-near-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/new-survey-reveals-drivers-flunk-on-speeding-near-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"New survey reveals drivers flunk on speeding near schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icbc.com\/assets\/en\/5B9pQ4uG2KcDPotoKPiMUP\/Summary%20of%20findings%20-%20back%20to%20school%20-%20FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a> has revealed that 31 percent of British Columbia drivers admit to speeding through a school zone during school hours at least \u2018sometimes\u2019 with four percent confessing they \u2018always\u2019 do it when the speed limit is in effect.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icbc.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Insurance Corporation of British Columbia<\/a> (ICBC) survey by Ipsos looked at driver\u2019s behaviour around school zones which, unless otherwise posted, have a 30 km\/h speed limit in effect from 8am to 5pm every school day.<\/p>\n<p>Almost every driver surveyed, 91 percent, said they had observed a driver speeding in a school zone during school hours at least \u2018sometimes\u2019 over the past two years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want drivers to understand that school zone speed limits are lower for one critical reason: to protect the lives of students, their families, and other road users in and around our schools,\u201d said Kathleen Nadalin, ICBC road safety manager.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChoosing to ignore these limits is not only breaking the law, it\u2019s putting children at risk.
