The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has launched its largest-ever college road safety education program, kicking off at University College Dublin\u2019s Freshers Week.<\/p>\n
The RSA team is visiting 23 third-level institutions nationwide, bringing interactive, engaging, and practical road safety experiences directly to students.<\/p>\n
It marks the RSA\u2019s first major Freshers Week initiative which aims to engage, inspire, and empower young adults to make safer choices on Ireland\u2019s roads \u2013 both as drivers and as passengers.<\/p>\n
Students will take part in immersive and hands-on activities that highlight the risks of drink and drug driving, tiredness, distraction, and not wearing a seatbelt.<\/p>\n
Activities including drink and drug driving goggles \u2013 simulating the effects of impairment on judgment, coordination, and reaction times, VR Headsets \u2013 giving students a 360\u00b0 view of the real-world consequences of dangerous driving and breathalyzer units \u2013 showing how easily people misjudge their alcohol levels.<\/p>\n
\u201cYoung people are at the heart of Ireland\u2019s road safety story,\u201d said RSA Chief Executive Sam Waide.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough this new programme, we\u2019re meeting students where they are \u2013 on campus, during Freshers Week \u2013 and giving them the tools, knowledge, and confidence to make safer choices.<\/p>\n
