{"id":15340,"date":"2025-12-09T15:00:21","date_gmt":"2025-12-09T15:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=15340"},"modified":"2025-12-08T18:30:25","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T18:30:25","slug":"motorists-warned-distraction-can-cost-everything","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/motorists-warned-distraction-can-cost-everything\/","title":{"rendered":"Motorists warned: \u2018Distraction can cost everything\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new campaign is warning drivers in Canada of the dangers of becoming distracted behind the wheel.<\/p>\n<p>During December\u2019s National Safe Driving Week, the CSC and the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC) are reminding young motorists \u201chow quickly distraction can cost everything: your safety, your license, and your future\u201d as part of the \u2018Gone in a Flash\u2019 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>According to the CSC distraction remains one of Canada\u2019s deadliest driving behaviors and a 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/tc.canada.ca\/en\/road-transportation\/stay-safe-when-driving\/distracted-driving\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Transport Canada<\/a> estimate points to distraction as a contributing factor in more than one in five fatal collisions and more than a quarter of serious injury collisions.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/tirf.ca\/news\/data-combat-distracted-drug-impaired-driving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Traffic Injury Research Foundation<\/a> has also identified that young drivers between 16-19 were most likely to have been distracted, with just over 20 per cent of fatally injured distracted drivers being found in that age bracket.<\/p>\n<p>This is tied for the most represented age group, along with drivers aged 65 and up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery alert, every song change, every text message and Instagram post can wait,\u201d the CSC said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour freedom can\u2019t. Stay present, eyes forward and locked in on the road ahead and on your surroundings.
