{"id":15342,"date":"2025-12-10T15:00:22","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T15:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=15342"},"modified":"2025-12-09T20:44:05","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T20:44:05","slug":"campaign-reminds-e-scooters-are-not-childs-play","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/campaign-reminds-e-scooters-are-not-childs-play\/","title":{"rendered":"Campaign reminds e-scooters are not child&#8217;s play"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Victorian Government along with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) has relaunched a road safety campaign reminding parents that it is illegal for people under the age of 16 to ride e-scooters.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, five people including one person under 16 years of age, lost their lives while riding an e-scooter on Victorian roads.<\/p>\n<p>The refreshed campaign \u2018If you think e-scooters are a toy, think again\u2019 uses stop-motion animation to depict toy-like riders engaging in dangerous and illegal behaviour, and has been expanded to include a new animation focused on underage riding and a video featuring emergency department doctors who share their experiences treating e-scooter injuries.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign is aimed towards parents and guardians who might be considering purchasing an e-scooter as a gift this Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cE-scooters might look like fun, but they\u2019re not toys \u2014 they\u2019re vehicles that come with serious risks,\u201d said Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis campaign is a wake-up call for parents: underage riding is illegal, and it can have tragic consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New laws were introduced in October last year to regulate the use of e-scooters on Victorian roads, including tough penalties for speeding, underage riding, riding without a helmet, riding on a footpath and carrying a passenger.<\/p>\n<p>The awareness campaign will run until Friday, 30 January 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Victorian Government along with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) has relaunched a road safety campaign reminding parents that it is illegal for people under the age of 16 to ride e-scooters.
