The nation also saw its second-lowest traffic fatality rate in recorded history at 1.10 fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled.<\/p>\n<p>NHTSA estimates that fatalities decreased in 39 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The National Safety Council said it was \u201cencouraged\u201d by the figures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis progress proves that change and improvement of our transportation system are not only possible, but already underway,\u201d said Lorraine Martin, NSC CEO.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy working together to make our roads safer, we can eliminate preventable traffic deaths in our lifetime.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The US Department of Transportation\u2019s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced that\u00a0traffic deaths fell to record lows in 2025.
