{"id":15526,"date":"2026-06-08T15:00:23","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T15:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/edrivingcomstg.wpenginepowered.com\/three60\/?p=15526"},"modified":"2026-05-27T22:23:58","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T22:23:58","slug":"driver-distraction-is-no-laughing-matter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/driver-distraction-is-no-laughing-matter\/","title":{"rendered":"Driver distraction is no laughing matter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The dangers of driving while using a mobile phone will be in the spotlight across Victoria, as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Regional Roadshow, supported by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).<\/p>\n<p>Running until 12 July, the roadshow will travel through 29 towns across the state, delivering driver distraction messaging in each location.<\/p>\n<p>Each festival show location will feature an interactive road safety education lightbox mural with hidden elements for audiences to find. In venue posters, decals and QR codes will encourage people to take part in a short road safety survey and learn about the dangers of distraction.<\/p>\n<p>According to the TAC, so far this year, there have been 80 road deaths in Victoria, with more than 60 percent occurring on regional roads. Driver distraction contributes to around seven per cent of fatalities on Victorian roads and the use of hand-held devices such as mobile phones is one of the main causes of distraction.<\/p>\n<p>The TAC is urging all Victorians to play their part in keeping roads safe by putting their phones away, staying alert, and looking out for others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the Comedy Festival Roadshow travels across regional Victoria, we are reminding locals to look up, stay focused and be present when they are on or near the road,\u201d said TAC Head of Community, Hannah Meredith.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The dangers of driving while using a mobile phone will be in the spotlight across Victoria, as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Regional Roadshow, supported by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).
