{"id":15570,"date":"2026-07-16T17:51:01","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T17:51:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/edrivingcomstg.wpenginepowered.com\/three60\/?p=15570"},"modified":"2026-07-16T17:51:01","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T17:51:01","slug":"rest-area-upgrades-deliver-safer-journeys-for-truck-drivers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/rest-area-upgrades-deliver-safer-journeys-for-truck-drivers\/","title":{"rendered":"Rest area upgrades deliver safer journeys for truck drivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Truck drivers travelling across some of New South Wales\u2019 busiest freight corridors will soon benefit from safer journeys, with major upgrades under way.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian and NSW governments are jointly investing in improved rest facilities at at three heavy vehicle rest areas on the Sturt and Hume highways to support driver wellbeing, reduce fatigue-related risks and improve conditions for the freight industry.<\/p>\n<p>Transport for NSW Executive Director Cassandra Ffrench said quality rest areas play a vital role in supporting truck drivers and improving road safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRoads are a heavy vehicle driver\u2019s workplace, and rest areas are important facilities that support drivers\u2019 health, safety and wellbeing, and enable compliance with mandatory fatigue management breaks,\u201d Ms Ffrench said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese upgrades are about giving truck drivers access to cleaner, safer and more accessible facilities so they can take proper breaks and return to the road refreshed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFatigue is one of the biggest risks on our highways and providing quality rest areas is one of the most practical things we can do to address it.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Truck drivers travelling across some of New South Wales\u2019 busiest freight corridors will soon benefit from safer journeys, with major upgrades under way.
