{"id":15638,"date":"2026-08-25T15:00:22","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T15:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/edrivingcomstg.wpenginepowered.com\/three60\/?p=15638"},"modified":"2026-08-20T22:49:46","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T22:49:46","slug":"campaign-targets-impaired-drivers-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/campaign-targets-impaired-drivers-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Campaign targets impaired drivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has been supporting Colorado State Patrol and 24 local law enforcement agencies for The Heat Is On Sturgis Rally DUI enforcement period.<\/p>\n<p>Saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints along with additional law enforcement officers on duty, dedicated to arresting impaired drivers and riders, have been keeping Colorado\u2019s roads safe during the initiative in August.<\/p>\n<p>The Sturgis Rally is an annual motorcycle rally held in South Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone, including motorcyclists, has a responsibility to be safe while riding or driving,\u201d said CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis means always riding sober, wearing a helmet and protective gear, and following traffic laws.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t let the ride to Sturgis be your last, stay safe on two wheels and ride sober.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CDOT has offered the following tips to keep motorcyclists safe:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Always wear a helmet. Helmets remain the primary method of reducing serious injuries and fatalities. Over the last five years, 49% of motorcyclists who died in Colorado were not wearing helmets, according to CDOT\u2019s fatal crash data dashboard.<\/li>\n<li>Wear protective gear for every ride: a jacket, gloves and boots. Protective gear protects riders from the pavement and other collisions.<\/li>\n<li>Never ride distracted. Put your phone away before starting a ride.
