{"id":5188,"date":"2018-04-25T08:28:38","date_gmt":"2018-04-25T08:28:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=5188"},"modified":"2018-04-25T08:28:38","modified_gmt":"2018-04-25T08:28:38","slug":"india-vehicle-manufacturer-says-it-is-making-road-safety-a-mass-movement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/india-vehicle-manufacturer-says-it-is-making-road-safety-a-mass-movement\/","title":{"rendered":"Vehicle manufacturer aims to make road safety a mass movement in India"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hyundai Motor India is hosting activities during\u00a0Road Safety Week 2018 in an attempt to make road safety a \u201cmass movement\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers-Society of Automotive Fitness and Environment (SIAM-SAFE) and other vehicle manufacturers are also participating in India Road Safety Week.\u00a0The theme is \u201cSadak Suraksha-Jeevan Raksha\u201d (Road Safety-Protect Life).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been working in the area of road safety through our Safe Move campaign since 2015,\u201d said Mr. Y K Koo, Managing Director &amp; CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. \u201cRoad safety knowledge is a key life skill and we want to educate everyone, including children from a very young age, the good road and driving behavior. We are doing multiple activities through our extensive pan-India network to engage with communities to make road safety a mass movement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Around 150,000 people lose their lives in road crashes every year in India; approximately 400 every day. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hyundai.com\/in\/en\/MediaCenter\/PressReleases\/DF_IN_LOCALNEWSVIEW_20180423.html?selx2=\">Ministry of Road Transport and Highways<\/a> says that central and state governments have been implementing various measures to make the roads safer, but the magnitude and gravity of the problem is such that these alone will not suffice. The Ministry says there is a need for the society at large to \u201ctake cognizance of the issue and to join hands to make road safety a social movement\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This year<span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"margin: 0px; font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2019<\/span><\/span>s Road Safety Week focuses\u00a0on the need to follow traffic rules including wearing seat belts, obeying traffic lights, speed limits and pedestrian crossing rules.
