India\u2019s 30th National Road Safety Week is taking place February 4-10, 2019.<\/p>\n

Regarded as the most dangerous country in the world in which to drive, over 1.5 lakh (150,000) people lose their lives every year in road traffic collisions and many more are debilitated.<\/p>\n

The theme of this year\u2019s event is \u201cSadak Suraksha-JeevanRaksha\u201d (road safety\u2014life saving).<\/p>\n

eDriving\u2019s ten tips for safer travel this Road Safety Week: <\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Keep your vehicle well-maintained.<\/li>\n
  2. Wear a seat belt when travelling in a car\/truck and make sure everyone else wears theirs too.<\/li>\n
  3. Always wear a helmet when riding a two-wheeler.<\/li>\n
  4. Don\u2019t overload your vehicle with passengers or luggage.<\/li>\n
  5. Avoid drinking alcohol completely if you are going to be driving\/ riding.<\/li>\n
  6. Put your phone away and avoid using it for any reason while driving\/ riding.<\/li>\n
  7. Give way to pedestrians and stop at designated crossings.<\/li>\n
  8. Follow the rules of the road.<\/li>\n
  9. Leave a safe following distance from other vehicles and drive at a safe speed that enables you to stop in the distance you can see to be clear.<\/li>\n
  10. Be patient. Vehicles of all sizes \u2013 plus pedestrians \u2013 battle for space on Indian roads.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
