This could be about dangerous traffic situations, road works and the timing of traffic lights. The new rules are in line with the <a href=\"http:\/\/europa.eu\/rapid\/press-release_IP-18-3708_en.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">proposals on clean mobility<\/a> introduced by the Juncker Commission, and are described as a further step for modernising the European mobility sector, preparing it for <a href=\"http:\/\/europa.eu\/rapid\/press-release_IP-18-6543_en.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">climate neutrality in the second half of the century<\/a> and contributing to the EU\u2019s long-term goal of moving close to zero fatalities and serious injuries by 2050 (\u201cVision Zero\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis decision gives vehicle manufacturers, road operators and others the long-awaited legal certainty needed to start large-scale deployment of C-ITS services across Europe, while remaining open to new technology and market developments,\u201d said Commissioner for Mobility and Transport, Violeta Bulc. \u201cIt will significantly contribute to us achieving our ambitions on road safety, and is an important stepping stone towards connected and automated mobility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From this year, vehicles, traffic signs and motorways will be equipped with technology to send standardised messages to all traffic participants around them.<\/p>\n<p>The cooperative element of the new technology \u2013 enabled by digital connectivity between vehicles, and between vehicles and the transport infrastructure \u2013 is expected to improve road safety, traffic efficiency and comfort when driving, by helping the driver to make the right decisions and adapt to the traffic situation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For more information<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/europa.eu\/rapid\/press-release_MEMO-19-1649_en.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MEMO<\/a>:\u00a0Road Safety: new rules clear way for clean, connected and automated mobility on EU roads<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European Commission has adopted new rules stepping up the deployment of Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) on Europe\u2019s roads.
