{"id":8477,"date":"2019-03-26T12:06:51","date_gmt":"2019-03-26T12:06:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=8477"},"modified":"2019-03-26T12:06:51","modified_gmt":"2019-03-26T12:06:51","slug":"vietnam-commits-to-increase-helmet-wearing-rates-among-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/vietnam-commits-to-increase-helmet-wearing-rates-among-children\/","title":{"rendered":"Vietnam commits to increase helmet wearing rates among children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Government of Vietnam has declared its commitment to the United Nations (UN) road crash prevention goals and has been selected to launch a five-continent initiative organized by the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety.<\/p>\n<p>The Vietnamese government has committed to: 1) increase helmet wearing rates among children of Vietnam to over 80% by 2030; 2) enforce compliance of quality helmets and ban all counterfeit helmets that do not meet technical requirements; 3) ensure successful implementation of the 3-year road safety action plan which includes the Global Road Safety Performance Targets; and 4) present these commitments in Stockholm in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>At a <em>Round the World Roundtable<\/em> the Government of Vietnam handed over a symbolic baton to UN Special Envoy Jean Todt to signify the country\u2019s commitments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is essential to increase the uptake of helmet use,\u201d said Todt. \u201cWearing a quality helmet has been proven to reduce drastically the risk of death and serious injury in the event of a crash. At the same time, it is essential to ensure that helmets available on the market meet acceptable safety standard to protect lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>AIP Foundation Founder and President Greig Craft added: \u201cThe impact of head trauma on children and families remains a global health \u2018epidemic\u2019.
