{"id":8501,"date":"2019-03-28T10:48:56","date_gmt":"2019-03-28T10:48:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=8501"},"modified":"2019-03-28T10:48:41","modified_gmt":"2019-03-28T10:48:41","slug":"new-video-footage-shows-dangers-of-driving-too-close","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/new-video-footage-shows-dangers-of-driving-too-close\/","title":{"rendered":"New video footage shows dangers of driving too close"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A video clip has been released by Highways\nEngland to demonstrate the dangers of driving too close. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The footage, captured by a dashcam in a\nhighway patrol vehicle, shows several cars braking sharply and one being struck\nby a HGV as an unrelated incident unfolds up ahead of travelling traffic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis footage is a startling reminder about\nthe dangers of driving too closely to the vehicle in front,\u201d said Highways\nEngland\u2019s Head of Road Safety Richard Leonard. \u201cIt clearly shows that if you\nget too close to the car in front, you won\u2019t be able to react and stop in time\nif they suddenly brake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe also know that tailgating makes the\ndriver in front feel targeted and victimised, distracting their attention from\nthe road ahead and making them more likely to make a mistake. It is\nintimidating and frightening if you\u2019re on the receiving end. If that leads to a\ncollision, then people in both vehicles could end up seriously injured or\nkilled. We want everyone to get home safe and well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A survey by Highways England reveals that\ntailgating is the biggest single bugbear that drivers have about other road\nusers. And in-car research \u2013 using dashcams, facial recognition, emotion\ntracking and heart monitors \u2013 reveals that a driver\u2019s typical reaction to\nsomeone who tailgates them is surprise, anger and contempt, with a spike in\nheart rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nearly 9 out of 10 people say they have either been tailgated or seen it.
