{"id":8556,"date":"2019-04-23T15:49:05","date_gmt":"2019-04-23T15:49:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=8556"},"modified":"2019-04-23T15:49:09","modified_gmt":"2019-04-23T15:49:09","slug":"new-zealand-government-consults-on-mandatory-abs-for-motorcycles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/new-zealand-government-consults-on-mandatory-abs-for-motorcycles\/","title":{"rendered":"New Zealand government consults on mandatory ABS for motorcycles"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The government is proposing a law change to\nmake ABS compulsory for new motorcycles over 125cc in New Zealand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If approved, the law change would apply to\nall new-model new motorcycles entering the fleet from 1 November 2019.\nCurrent-model new motorcycles and imported used motorcycles entering the fleet\nwould be required to have ABS from 1 November 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several exceptions are proposed for classic\nand collectable motorcycles and there are no requirements for ABS to be\nretrofitted to existing motorcycles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Motorcycle Safety Advisory Council recommended\nthe change to government following its 2018 Motorcycle Safety Summit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A consultation is currently taking place and is open until 5pm Friday 26 April 2019. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Consultation information<\/strong><br>The proposed changes are set out in the Land Transport Rule: Light-vehicle Brakes 2019 being released for public consultation to ensure all stakeholders and the public can have their say.
