{"id":8572,"date":"2019-04-25T16:58:47","date_gmt":"2019-04-25T16:58:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=8572"},"modified":"2019-04-25T17:32:39","modified_gmt":"2019-04-25T17:32:39","slug":"teen-safety-campaign-launches-for-prom-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/teen-safety-campaign-launches-for-prom-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Teen safety campaign launches for prom season"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.safeny.ny.gov\/\">Governor\u2019s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC)<\/a>\nin New York is once again running its \u201c<em>No\nEmpty Chair<\/em>\u201d teen driver safety initiative during the week of April 29 \u2013\nMay 3, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">State and local law enforcement will participate in the\nweek-long, multi-agency campaign. School Resource Officers, school\nadministrators, local traffic safety partners and other community stakeholders\nare also encouraged to help raise awareness to ensure there are no empty chairs\nat prom and graduation this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Law enforcement officers will increase their presence in the\nvicinity of high schools throughout the campaign and are being urged to be\nvigilant for Graduated Driving License (GDL) violations. The GDL law is\ndesigned to provide time for young people to gain crucial driving experience in\ndifferent traffic situations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Patrols will focus on a different traffic safety threat on each day of the week while still enforcing all other vehicle and traffic laws. The target dates are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Monday, April 29 &#8211; Speeding in School Zones<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tuesday, April 30 &#8211; Seatbelts and Child Restraints<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wednesday, May 1 &#8211; Cell Phone Use and Texting<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thursday, May 2 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.safeny.ny.gov\/lawEnf.htm#oss\">Operation SafeStop<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Friday, May 3 &#8211; Underage Drinking and Impaired Driving<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Educational materials to help promote the <em>No Empty Chair<\/em>campaign can be found in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.safeny.ny.gov\/SRO-Toolkit\/default.html\">GTSC Young Driver\nToolkit<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Governor\u2019s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) in New York is once again running its \u201cNo Empty Chair\u201d teen driver safety initiative during the week of April 29 \u2013 May 3, 2019.
