{"id":8595,"date":"2019-05-02T16:52:12","date_gmt":"2019-05-02T16:52:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=8595"},"modified":"2019-05-02T16:52:17","modified_gmt":"2019-05-02T16:52:17","slug":"survey-reveals-extent-of-marijuana-impaired-drivers-traveling-with-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/survey-reveals-extent-of-marijuana-impaired-drivers-traveling-with-children\/","title":{"rendered":"Survey reveals extent of marijuana-impaired drivers traveling with children"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Almost one in seven drivers traveling with children in\nWashington state tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the\npsychoactive ingredient in marijuana, according to new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsad.com\/doi\/abs\/10.15288\/jsad.2019.80.196\">research<\/a>\npublished in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The roadside survey set out to examine the prevalence and\npatterns of alcohol and cannabis use among drivers with children on weekend\nnights and risk perceptions among these drivers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A total of 2,056 drivers (1,238 male) participated in the\nWashington State Roadside Survey between June 2014 and June 2015. Oral fluid,\nblood, and breath samples were used to measure cannabis and alcohol use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The results revealed that, compared with other drivers,\nthose who drove with a child were more likely to be driving during the daytime,\nless likely to be alcohol positive, but as likely to be positive for THC (14\npercent compared to 17 percent of those not accompanied by a child).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Researchers also discovered that drivers\u2019 attitudes to\nmarijuana affected their likelihood of driving with a child. Of those who\nthought marijuana was \u201cvery likely\u201d to impair driving, 8.9 percent tested\npositive for THC.
