{"id":8598,"date":"2019-05-03T15:24:24","date_gmt":"2019-05-03T15:24:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/?p=8598"},"modified":"2019-05-03T15:24:25","modified_gmt":"2019-05-03T15:24:25","slug":"drivers-urged-to-take-care-during-cinco-de-mayo-festivities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edriving.com\/three60\/drivers-urged-to-take-care-during-cinco-de-mayo-festivities\/","title":{"rendered":"Drivers urged to take care during Cinco de Mayo festivities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) is asking\neveryone participating in Cinco de Mayo festivities this weekend to celebrate\nresponsibly by planning ahead for how to get home safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Law enforcement agencies across the state will have additional\nofficers on patrol looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence\nof alcohol and\/or drugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, Cinco de Mayo has become a deadly holiday for impaired driving, which is why it is important for everyone to celebrate with caution and make smart decisions about how they get home,\u201d said OTS Director Rhonda Craft. \u201cDesignate a sober driver before the party, whether it is ride-share, a friend or taxi.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The OTS reminds drivers that a \u201cDUI Doesn\u2019t Just Mean\nBooze.\u201d Prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications and marijuana can all\nbe impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, and can\nlead to a DUI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are OTS\u2019 tips for safe celebrations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Playing party host? Offer nonalcoholic drinks. Monitor who is drinking and ask how they are getting home.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If you plan to drink, choose a sober way to get around. Use ride-share, a designated sober driver, taxi, or public transportation to get home.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If you are hosting a party and someone who is clearly impaired tries to leave, offer them a sober ride home or have them stay the night.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAny level of impairment while driving puts everyone around\nyou, and yourself, at risk,\u201d added Craft. \u201cBeing sober is the safest bet behind\nthe wheel.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) is asking everyone participating in Cinco de Mayo festivities this weekend to celebrate responsibly by planning ahead for how to get home safely.
