All drink driving offenders in New South Wales (NSW),\nAustralia, will now immediately lose their driving licence under new penalties\nannounced by the Minister for Transport and Roads Andrew Constance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From May 20 drink drivers who are first-time, lower range\noffenders will receive an immediate three-month licence suspension and fine of\n$561.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis means anyone caught drink\u2010driving in NSW, at any\nlevel, including low-range, can now lose their licence immediately,\u201d said\nConstance. \u201cThis reform makes it clear if you break the law, you will pay the\nprice. We are taking a zero-tolerance approach to drink and drug driving.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New penalties also apply to drug drivers. Offenders who\ndrive with the presence of illicit drugs for the first time will receive a $561\nfine and a three-month licence suspension if the offence is confirmed by\nlaboratory analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alcohol-related crashes claimed the lives of at least 68\npeople on NSW roads last year, accounting for nearly one in five road deaths,\nincluding 55 lives lost on country roads.
